ESTA charge introduction date set
9 August 2010
From 8 Sep 2010 travellers to the US will have to pay a US$14 fee to use its online immigration system ESTA, as part of the VisaWaiver Programme. The charge, which is compulsory to enter the US, was predicted to cost $10 but another $4 has beenadded to cover administration costs. The charge will go towards promoting tourism to the US.
As the ESTA is valid for two years anyway ( or until your passport expires- whichever is the sooner ) we recommend applying for this before 8 Sep 10 to avoid the charge if you think you might be travelling there by 2012. It takes about 10 mins to complete and you usually get the confirmation quickly enough.
